SAADS Hospice Retreat (9-7-23)

This week we took a field trip to the SAADS Hospice Retreat. As stated in the first sentence this was a retreat, not a center. I was amazed at how nice, warm, and lovely this place is. They take pride in having developed a facility that is warm and welcoming for people who are going through quite difficult times. The interior is designed to feel like a cabin with lots of exposed wood and natural light. They also ensure that the medical equipment is hidden away from the sight of visitors to maintain that homey feel. I was incredibly impressed with the kind people and the lovely atmosphere. I am definitely considering volunteering here when I get an opportunity.

This week we also had a discussion post on patient rights. It was interesting that rules and regulations are put into place to ensure that operations run smoothly between the patients and the healthcare team. It was interesting to see how along with the rights the apitens are granted, they also have responsibilities to uphold while going through the medical system. We also have a skills lab this week to review the steps to take during a physical exam. We each took a turn role-playing as a medical professional doing to physical exam.
